Healthy Food Access. We all eat. And yet our options couldn’t be more unequal. Food insecurity is a serious issue in St. Louis.
In the words of one of our scheduled speakers, Erica Williams of A Red Circle: “Good food has become weaponized to segregate between those who have social capital and, those who do not. Healthy eating impacts everything from brain development to physical health to neighborhood composition. When low-income, predominantly black neighborhoods have more fast food options than healthy options and when the few grocery stores sell low quality produce, you no longer have a food desert but a few swamps.”
“We have to change the narrative around food and link good food to quality education and economic growth. At the same time, we must create a demand for healthy food and nudge residents into better eating habits. We can do this by making good food more affordable, attractive, and accessible.”
Access to good food is the new class divide. Join us for this month’s Slow Food conversation and meet the folks with the insights, ideas, and energy to change that.
Come early around 6:00 and order dinner off the delicious Rooster menu or just come to mingle and connect.
This event is free and open to the public.
