On September 17th from 4:00-7:00, the Slow Food StL Garlic Project will be accepting and distributing garlic bulbs to those participating in the Crop Sourcing Garlic Project. Spring 2018 was difficult for garlic growers. Too much rain combined with inconsistent temps contributed to most garlic failing to produce larger bulbs, even those with large scapes and leaves.

Now is the time to return to the Garlic Project some of the garlic you grew this year. How much to return is up to you. We recommend returning at least two bulbs for every bulb you were given if possible. Perhaps you had a successful year? You are welcome to return more bulbs. Steven McGehee, project coordinator, will be passing out new bulbs for this year’s fall planting season as well as accepting your harvested bulbs on Tuesday, September 17th from 4:00-7:00 at Larder and Cupboard: 7310 Manchester Rd. Maplewood, 63143. This event is free and open to all. Don’t forget to sample several garlic varieties while you’re there!

Please email Steve smcgehee1959@gmail.com, letting him know how much you are returning and how much you would like to pick up for your fall planting so he can prepare your order. Garlic will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. First time growers are also welcome to pick up garlic and give it a try. If you can’t make it on the 17th, you can drop off your garlic at Kakao Chocolate: 7272 Manchester Road in Maplewood 314-645-4446 during business hours.
